How to resize a GATE Photo

  1. Choose the GATE Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 350 × 450 px at 200 DPI, with a 5–200 KB working range.
  2. Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
  3. Download and check the file. The target is 80 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.

Official GATE photo rules

  • Upload a JPEG between 5 KB and 200 KB.
  • Use a 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm photograph. The GOAPS portal accepts roughly 240 × 320 px to 480 × 640 px; this preset uses 350 × 450 px.
  • Keep the background white or very light and the face front-facing.
  • Leave the face at about 60–70% of the frame rather than filling the whole image.
  • Use a recent colour photo without a cap, mask or dark glasses.

Why GATE photo files get rejected

  • The image is below the minimum pixel box or too blurry to identify the candidate.
  • The face is too large, with the top of the head or the chin cropped.
  • The background is dark, patterned or shadowed.
  • The file is above 200 KB or below 5 KB.
  • The photo is a scanned document or a screenshot with a border.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum GATE photo size?

GOAPS has accepted images from about 240 × 320 px up to 480 × 640 px in recent cycles, as long as the proportion is 3.5 × 4.5 cm. This preset uses 350 × 450 px, which sits comfortably inside that range.

Is the GATE photo the same as JEE Main?

The print proportion is the same, but GATE asks for a slightly smaller face coverage of about 60–70%, while NTA exams usually ask for about 80%. Use the GATE preset rather than reusing a tightly cropped JEE photo.

What signature does GATE require?

GOAPS asks for a scanned running-hand signature in a small JPEG box. Check the current GATE information brochure for the exact pixels and KB limit, then use the matching signature preset.
