SSC's One-Time Registration app uses a live capture, but several SSC application forms still ask for an uploaded photograph. Keep a clean studio file ready for the upload and use the live capture when the form opens the camera.

How to resize a SSC Photo
- Choose the SSC Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 350 × 450 px at 100 DPI, with a 20–50 KB working range.
- Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
- Download and check the file. The target is 40 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.
Official SSC photo rules
- Upload a JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB. Files just outside this window are rejected by the portal before the form saves.
- Use a portrait photograph measuring 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, which this preset exports as 350 × 450 px.
- Keep the background plain white or light. Shadows, curtains, brick walls and coloured studio backdrops are common rejection triggers.
- Show the full face from the crown to the chin, with both ears visible. No cap, mask, goggles or dark-tinted spectacles.
- Use a recent photograph. Do not print your name or the date on the photo unless that cycle's notice explicitly asks for it.
Why SSC photo files get rejected
- The file is 51 KB or 19 KB, just outside the 20–50 KB window.
- The image is square or landscape instead of the expected portrait box.
- The background is coloured, patterned or has a visible shadow behind the head.
- The forehead, chin or one ear is cropped out of the frame.
- A beauty filter, heavy smoothing or an old photograph makes the face look different from the candidate.
Frequently asked questions
What is the exact SSC photo size for CGL, CHSL, MTS and GD?
SSC asks for a JPEG photograph between 20 KB and 50 KB, with a print size of 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm. This preset uses the widely accepted 350 × 450 px version of that box and keeps the file inside the size range.
Why is my SSC photo rejected when the file is under 50 KB?
The portal checks more than file size. A square crop, a shadowed background, a covered ear or a face that is too small in the frame can fail even when the KB count is correct. Re-check the crop and the background before uploading again.
Can I make this SSC photo on my phone?
Yes. Choose a clear, well-lit photo from your gallery and run it through the preset here. The file is processed in your browser and is never sent to a server, so it is safe to use on a shared phone.
