Supports JPG, PNG, and WebP format
NSDL and UTI use different photo boxes, which is why the same file can fail on one portal and pass on the other. The NSDL form asks for a 2.5 × 3.5 cm colour photograph; the UTI form uses a square 213 × 213 px image. Check which portal is handling your application before exporting.

How to resize a PAN NSDL Photo
- Choose the PAN NSDL Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 197 × 276 px at 200 DPI, with a 20–50 KB working range.
- Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
- Download and check the file. The target is 40 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.
Official PAN NSDL photo rules
- Upload a colour JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB.
- Use the 2.5 cm × 3.5 cm box, exported here as 197 × 276 px at 200 DPI.
- Keep the background plain white or very light.
- Show the full face, front-facing, without a cap or dark glasses.
- Do not scan the photograph as part of a document or include a signature in the same file.
Why PAN NSDL photo files get rejected
- A square 213 × 213 px UTI photo is uploaded to the NSDL form.
- The image is black and white or has a coloured background.
- The file is 51 KB or 19 KB, just outside the 20–50 KB window.
- The photo is a scan of the whole form rather than a standalone portrait.
- A shadow or a border makes the face look cropped.
Frequently asked questions
Is the NSDL PAN photo the same as the UTI PAN photo?
No. NSDL asks for a 2.5 × 3.5 cm photograph, which this preset exports as 197 × 276 px. UTIITSL uses a square 213 × 213 px image under 30 KB. Use the preset for the portal that is processing your application.
What is the PAN signature size?
Both PAN portals ask for a scanned signature in a wide box, commonly 400 × 200 px. Check the current form instructions because the KB limit differs between NSDL and UTI.
Can I use a phone photo for the PAN card?
Yes, if it is sharp, front-facing and taken against a plain light wall. Avoid a selfie angle and a shadow behind the head. The printed PAN card is small, so a clean face matters more than a high pixel count.
