UPSC uses a square signature box, which leaves empty space above and below a normal running-hand signature. Centre the strokes and keep the white margin; do not stretch the scan to fill the square.

How to resize a UPSC Signature

  1. Choose the UPSC Signature preset. It is already selected on this page: 350 × 350 px at 300 DPI, with a 20–300 KB working range.
  2. Upload your signature. Sign in running hand with a dark blue or black pen on plain white paper. Crop close to the strokes but leave a small white margin.
  3. Download and check the file. The target is 60 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.

Official UPSC signature rules

  • Upload a JPEG signature between 20 KB and 300 KB.
  • Use the 350 × 350 px minimum box; larger square images up to 1000 × 1000 px are also accepted.
  • Sign with a black ballpoint pen on plain white paper.
  • Use running handwriting, not capital or block letters.
  • Centre the signature in the square and keep a white margin on all four sides.

Why UPSC signature files get rejected

  • The signature is stretched horizontally to fill the square.
  • The scan is blue ink or pencil instead of black ballpoint.
  • Ruled paper, a table edge or a phone shadow is visible in the crop.
  • The file is below 20 KB or above 300 KB.
  • The signature is cropped at one end or has almost no white margin.

Frequently asked questions

Does UPSC require a square signature?

The upload box is square, with a 350 × 350 px minimum. Keep the signature centred and unstretched inside that box; a normal wide signature will naturally leave white space above and below.

Can I use blue ink for the UPSC signature?

Use a black ballpoint pen. UPSC's guidance specifies black ballpoint on white paper, and a blue or pencil signature is an avoidable rejection risk.

What is the UPSC signature file size?

Between 20 KB and 300 KB as a JPEG. This preset targets about 60 KB, which keeps the strokes clean while staying well inside the range.
