UIDAI captures the enrolment and update photograph live at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra; there is no official online photo upload for changing the Aadhaar database record. This preset is for the copies you attach to other forms, print for a file, or upload to a state portal that asks for an Aadhaar-style photo.

How to resize a Aadhaar Photo

  1. Choose the Aadhaar Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 350 × 450 px at 200 DPI, with a 20–50 KB working range.
  2. Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
  3. Download and check the file. The target is 40 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.

Official Aadhaar photo rules

  • UIDAI captures the Aadhaar enrolment photograph live at the enrolment or update centre. Do not use this tool expecting to replace the database photo online.
  • For an attached copy or a print, use a 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm portrait and keep the JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB.
  • Keep the background plain white or light and the face front-facing.
  • Do not wear a cap, goggles or a mask. Spectacles are allowed if there is no glare.
  • Check the receiving portal's instructions, because an Aadhaar copy is not the same as an Aadhaar enrolment photo.

Why Aadhaar photo files get rejected

  • The file is treated as an official Aadhaar update when UIDAI requires a live capture at the centre.
  • The background is coloured or the face is shadowed.
  • The photo is a screenshot of an existing Aadhaar card rather than a portrait.
  • The file is above 50 KB or below 20 KB.
  • The crop cuts off the top of the head or the chin.

Frequently asked questions

Can I update my Aadhaar photo online with this tool?

No. UIDAI does not provide an online photo replacement for the Aadhaar database. Visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre for a biometric and photo update. This tool only prepares a copy for other forms and printouts.

What size should an Aadhaar photo copy be?

A common attachment size is 3.5 × 4.5 cm, exported here as 350 × 450 px, with a JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB. Follow the portal that is asking for the copy if it publishes a different box.

Is this photo accepted by UIDAI?

UIDAI's own enrolment photo is captured by the operator at the centre. A file made here is not an official UIDAI upload. Use it only where another form or office asks you to attach a photograph.
