The Sarathi photo box is larger in pixels than most exam boxes but has a very low KB ceiling. A detailed background eats the budget and forces the face to blur, so use a plain wall and crop close before compressing.

How to resize a Parivahan Photo

  1. Choose the Parivahan Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 420 × 525 px at 300 DPI, with a 10–20 KB working range.
  2. Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
  3. Download and check the file. The target is 18 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.

Official Parivahan photo rules

  • Upload a JPEG between 10 KB and 20 KB.
  • Use the 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm box, exported here as 420 × 525 px at 300 DPI.
  • Keep the background plain white or light and free of shadows.
  • Show the full face, front-facing, without a cap or dark glasses.
  • Use a recent colour photo. Do not upload a scan of the whole form.

Why Parivahan photo files get rejected

  • The file is 21 KB or 9 KB, just outside the 10–20 KB window.
  • The background is busy, which forces the face to blur at the low KB limit.
  • The image is a scan of a paper form rather than a portrait.
  • The face is tilted or the top of the head is cropped.
  • A cap, mask or dark glasses hide the face.

Frequently asked questions

Is this photo for a learner's licence or a permanent DL?

The same Sarathi upload box is used for learner's licence and driving licence applications in many states. Confirm the instructions on your state's Sarathi page because the photo and signature rules can differ slightly.

What is the Parivahan signature size?

Sarathi commonly asks for a 256 × 64 px signature with a 10–20 KB limit. Use the signature preset and sign in black ink on plain white paper.

Why is the DL photo limit only 20 KB?

The portal keeps the upload small for its own storage and printing workflow. A plain background and a tight face crop leave more of the 20 KB budget for the features that matter, instead of spending it on wall texture.
