Supports JPG, PNG, and WebP format
UTIITSL uses a square photo while NSDL uses a 3.5 × 2.5 cm rectangle. A square crop also removes the shoulders that a normal passport photo keeps, so frame the face centrally and leave a little space above the head.

How to resize a PAN UTI Photo
- Choose the PAN UTI Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 213 × 213 px at 300 DPI, with a 1–30 KB working range.
- Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
- Download and check the file. The target is 25 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.
Official PAN UTI photo rules
- Upload a colour JPEG that stays under 30 KB.
- Use the 213 × 213 px square box at 300 DPI.
- Keep the background plain white or very light.
- Centre the full face in the square without a cap or dark glasses.
- Do not include a signature, form text or a scanned border in the photo file.
Why PAN UTI photo files get rejected
- The file is 31 KB or larger.
- A rectangular NSDL photo is uploaded instead of the square box.
- The image is black and white, blurred or heavily filtered.
- The face is off-centre or the top of the head is cropped.
- The background is coloured or has a visible shadow.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the UTI PAN photo square?
UTIITSL's application form uses a 213 × 213 px square box, while NSDL uses a 3.5 × 2.5 cm rectangle. The square crop is intentional, so do not pad it into a portrait shape.
What is the UTI PAN signature size?
UTIITSL commonly asks for a 400 × 200 px signature at 600 DPI with a limit under 60 KB. Check the current form because the upload rules can change between releases.
How do I get a PAN photo under 30 KB?
The square box is small, so a clean source usually compresses well. This preset targets about 25 KB and checks the actual byte count before download. If the result is still over 30 KB, crop closer to the face and avoid textured backgrounds.
