RRB is the exam that catches candidates with a portrait photo. The portal expects a landscape 320 × 240 px image even though the print size is listed as 3.5 × 4.5 cm, so crop the head and shoulders into the wide box instead of rotating a passport photo.

How to resize a RRB Photo

  1. Choose the RRB Photo preset. It is already selected on this page: 320 × 240 px at 200 DPI, with a 30–70 KB working range.
  2. Upload your photo. Use a recent, front-facing photograph with a plain light background. Keep the full face, both ears and the top of the head inside the frame.
  3. Download and check the file. The target is 50 KB. Confirm the output size shown by the tool, then upload the downloaded file to the official portal before the form closes.

Official RRB photo rules

  • Upload a JPEG between 30 KB and 70 KB.
  • Use the 320 × 240 px landscape box shown by the RRB application portal.
  • Keep the background plain white or light and free of shadows.
  • Centre the face in the frame with the top of the head and the chin visible.
  • Use a recent colour photograph without a cap, mask or dark glasses.

Why RRB photo files get rejected

  • A portrait 240 × 320 px photo is uploaded instead of the landscape 320 × 240 px box.
  • The file is 29 KB or 71 KB, just outside the 30–70 KB range.
  • The background is coloured or has a visible shadow behind the head.
  • The head is rotated or the face is pushed to one side of the frame.
  • The image is a screenshot or an enlarged low-resolution copy.

Frequently asked questions

Why does RRB ask for a landscape photo?

The RRB portal's upload box is 320 px wide and 240 px tall. That is landscape even though the print size is often described as 3.5 × 4.5 cm. Follow the pixel box shown on the portal rather than rotating the image.

Is the RRB photo size the same for NTPC, Group D and ALP?

The 320 × 240 px and 30–70 KB specification has been used across RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP and technician notices. Always confirm against the current CEN because individual boards can revise the upload instructions.

Can I use a portrait photo and crop it later?

Yes. Start with a portrait source, then use the cover crop in this preset to fill the 320 × 240 px frame. Check that the top of the head and the chin are both inside the crop before downloading.
